2016 is all about upping your game — being a better coach. It is time to get inspired and start to study and apply the ICF Core Competencies at a much deeper level. Our 8 week virtual class starts January 12th and there is still time to get in on some early bird cash savings. Enroll by Thursday the 7th and save $100.
Class is on Tuesdays from noon ET – 1:00 – starting January 12th.
Here is what is on tap:
Week 1: Establishing the coaching agreement.
This core competency is the most critical but often under applied competency that there is. Not only is having an agreement for the coaching relationship critical – so is having an agreement for each and every coaching session. By establishing the agreement, your coaching is more effective, more efficient, and more masterful. This goes well beyond: So what do you want to work on?
Week 2: Let’s get ethical…ethical…
So what would you do? Black… white… or 50 Shades of Gray? How do your morals tie into the ICF Code of Ethics? We discussed case studies to get the discussion going on how to really know and understand the code of ethics. The excuse: well… everyone else does it… won’t hold water when it comes to the ICF Board of Ethics. Ps: did you know that the ICF Code of Ethics just changed this summer?…and by being a CPC you pledge commitment to abide by them.
Week 3: Trust and Intimacy
When trust and intimacy are created – well… magic happens. It is about respect, it is about vulnerability and it is about full expression. This is where the growing and transformation occurs.
So, the question is, how do you create that with someone you never met? We’ll tell you. And how you can model it for your clients to follow suite. When it comes to Coaching Presence – it is – how in your head are you? Learn techniques to be in the moment, to let go of perfection, so you won’t get in your client’s way!
This is about connection, consciousness, being in the moment. Not your agenda… and get this… not knowing where they’re going, it’s not being in the story. Just truly being there, not worrying about how it’s going and almost not caring… not in a bad way but it doesn’t matter and let the conversation just flow… Being open, flexible, present and confident. Not solutions…not outcomes… not fixing… how to be there!
Week 4: Active Listening — can you hear me now?
This class will help you master how to really listen at a deeper level. How to not get sucked in the story and how to really listen for what is not being said. Between the ACC, PCC and MCC levels there are huge distinctions on how you listen as a coach. Listening to the words…what’s behind, underneath, and over what is being said? Hearing the intention for why they’re telling you what they are telling you. Listening for values, hearing beliefs without saying: ‘so, client what are your values and beliefs?’ Bottom lining and landing the plane goes on here…
Week 5: Powerful Questioning
Learn how to master the question. Let go of the ‘why’. Embrace the “what” and begin to drill down on what is really go on. Learn what types of questions only give you more story and what types of questions actually have you coach awareness. Ask questions that evoke discovery, insight, awareness, and clarity… get your clients into possibilities. It is all about being provocative. This is about learning what types of questions just give you more story and what types of questions get you to the point of perception pivot.
Week 6: Tell it like it is…Direct Communication
We didn’t say directive here… so no telling your clients what to do or leading them…this is about direct communication. This competency isn’t telling, or stating, or pontificating. It is about directly laser-ing in to the real core energy. It’s balancing direct communication with powerful questioning. Stop tap dancing around topics – this is your chance to, in a masterful way, share your human behavior observations powerfully.
This is the clarity competency… be clear…keep it simple… and keep the judgment out… even letting go of your “excellent” and “really good” (because that would be your opinion).
Week 7: Creating Awareness and Designing Actions
True power comes with awareness…no forcing here. Awareness is the name of the game during coaching. This is the big picture aka: Meta View. As you move up the ICF distinctions – you begin to let go of transaction coaching and move to transformational coaching. We coach awareness. We coach choice. So, how do you really help a client to see what specifically has them stuck and then help them see a different perspective? We will show you. It’s not our job to tell our clients where their awareness should be… We help them raise their own. Serial fixers pay close attention here. Once you have awareness, then designing actions can be woven throughout the coaching session and not only during the last three minutes. Designing actions is an art that can take place throughout the session and it is much more than a to-do list when you get to the PCC and MCC level. With MCC coaching the client will design their own actions without you saying “what are you going to do?”
Week 8: Goal Setting & Progress & Accountability
Learn how to take the client’s learning style into account when it comes to planning, goal setting and accountability. Learn how to coach the missing in accountability from a higher level of mastery to help clients receive the insights as they relate to the broader version of the clients’ WHO.
Progress & accountability… it’s the clients’ responsibility. We don’t hold them accountable – they hold themselves accountable. What will support you in kicking ass? What will support you in being successful?
